Musty Front-Loader? A Few Easy Habits
Front-load washers seal tight. With the door closed, moisture can get trapped inside.
- Leave the door open a bit between loads so it can dry out.
- Wipe the rubber door seal, including the folds.
- Leave the detergent drawer open a bit too, so it can dry. Clean it now and then the way your manual shows.
- Use HE detergent and measure it carefully. More soap doesn't mean cleaner clothes.
- Run your washer's cleaning cycle with a compatible cleaner, following its instructions.
Affresh washer cleaner works well. Active is a more affordable alternative. Either one can be run once or twice a month, depending on your needs.
If you have small kids or pets, make sure they can't get into the washer while the door is open.
If the smell sticks around, or you see water leaking when the door is closed, give the office a call.

It helps to have a few things handy:
- The brand of the appliance.
- What it's doing, or not doing.
- Any error codes on the display.
- A photo of the model and serial number tag, if it's easy to get to.
Can't find the tag? No problem. You can still book a visit.
If you have a video or a helpful photo, the office will explain how to send it when you make your appointment.
Please don't move the appliance or take off any panels to get any of this.

Ross will tell you what he'd do if the appliance were in his own house. He looks at how well it's built, its overall condition, what actually failed, the repair cost compared to a suitable replacement, and whether parts are available.
Then you decide. It's your appliance and your call.
